Cordilleran Metamorphic Core Complexes

Editors: Max D. Crittenden Jr., Peter J. Coney, and George H. Davis

Cordilleran metamorphic core complexes are a group of generally domal or arch-like, isolated uplifts of anomalously deformed, metamorphic and plutonic rocks overlain by a tectonically detached and distended unmetamorphosed cover. The features are scattered in a sinuous string along the axis of the eastern two-thirds of the North American Cordillera from southern Canada to northwestern Mexico. This volume presents a new perception of Cordilleran tectonic evolution and establishes the importance of Cordilleran metamorphic core complexes in the Tertiary history and in the architecture of the Cordillera. Volume is dedicated to Peter Misch, a pioneer in the study of Cordilleran tectonics. Related: MWR152, MWR157, SPE208.
