The Devonian Catskill clastic wedge contains Earth’s earliest environments that have clear modern analogs. This out-and-back field trip will explore outcrops of the Catskill-equivalent Hampshire Fm. across scenic stops in West Virginia, with lively discussions of regional stratigraphy, marine-terrestrial transitions, paleoclimate, and evolution of Earth’s Critical Zone through time. Cost includes transportation, lunch, snacks, and water.
