Two color sheets. Sheet one is 23" x 35" and sheet two is 23" x 43". Scale 1:31,682. From text: The San Andreas fault has a fairly consistent strike of about N.40°W through central California but bends to a nearly west strike through part of southern California. Our map covers the westernmost portion of this bend and constitutes a 6·km·wide strip that straddles the fault from State Highway 166 southeastward to Interstate 5 (see map sheet). This work is a refinement of earlier mapping of recently active breaks (Vedder and Wallace, 1970) and more traditional geologic mapping (Sierveld, 1957; Van Amringe, 1957; Hammond, 1958; Ziony, 1958; Frakes, 1959; Carman, 1964; Crowell, 1964; Dibblee, 1972, 1974a, 1974b; Dibblee and Nilsen, 1973). The strip map shows not only recent surface breaks but also structures and rock units of all ages along the San Andreas fault. This information is intended for scientists studying the geologic aspects of the San Andreas fault and for engineers, planners, and others concerned with land use and development along the fault.
