Full Title: Upper Cretaceous Stratigraphy of the Western Gulf Coast Area of Mexico, Texas, and Arkansas
Author: Emile A. Pessagno Jr.
The planktonic Foraminifera are one of the most important groups of pelagic invertebrates for the precise local, regional, and intercontinental correlation of Upper Cretaceous strata . Their rapid evolution during Late Cretaceous time, their cosmopolitan nature, and their great abundance in most marine sedimentary strata make them superb biostratigraphic tools. This report deals with the stratigraphic distribution of planktonic Foraminifera in the Upper Cretaceous strata of the western GuIf Coast, area of Mexico, Texas, and Arkansas. A detailed system of zonation is presented that should greatly facilitate the correlation of Upper Cretaceous strata in the area mentioned above as well as elsewhere in the Western Hemisphere and in Eurasia.
