Full Title: Laramide Folding Associated with Basement Block Faulting in the Western United States
Editor: Vincent Matthews III
Papers in this volume describe various aspects of Laramide deformation in the Rocky Mountains foreland and the Colorado Plateau. Most of the structures produced by Laramide deformation in the Rocky Mountains are interpreted by the authors to be drape folds (forced folds), that is, the geometry of the folds in the ductile sedimentary strata is determined by the differential uplift of underlying brittle blocks of structural basement. However, most structural geology textbooks lack information on the concept of drape folding. It is hoped that this collection of papers will focus attention on the significant advances that have been made toward understanding foreland-type deformation in the Western United States.
