An interesting case study of a comparatively well-known Early Proterozoic region seen from different viewpoints. In recent years, field, laboratory, and geochronologic investigations have established a sequence of Proterozoic events for the Great Lakes region. The first two papers provide an overview of the Penokean orogeny; the next five present more restricted topical or areal views of the period; and the final two papers discuss two post-Penokean, Early Proterozoic events in the region—the 1780 Ma felsic magmatism in south-central Wisconsin and the deposition and significance of red quartzites in Wisconsin and Minnesota. An important addition to the literature of the period. Related: MWRI56, MWRI57, MCH037-041.
