This volume presents a series of 19 papers summarizing ground-based research conducted during the past decade on the Paleozoic and Mesozoic tectonic history of central and eastern Asia. Papers within the volume are grouped into three thematic sections. The first chapter focuses on the structural, thermochronologic, and sedimentary records of the Paleozoic tectonic assembly of central and eastern Asia. The second section examines the record of Mesozoic deformation in orogenic belts of central and eastern Asia, mainly through structural, geochronologic, and thermochronologic documentation and analysis. The final section focuses on the record of contractile, extensional, and strike-slip intracontinental deformation as preserved in the fill of Asia’s vast sedimentary basins. This section also provides analysis of Mesozoic paleoenvironments, basin thermal histories, sediment provenance, and paleoclimates.
