This short course will go over common analytical field methods that use handheld/portable instruments: X-ray fluorescence (pXRF), laser-induced breakdown (LIBS), gamma-ray spectroscopy (KUTh), and infrared spectroscopy. Included will be discussions on the limitations, calibration, and applications of each. Practical demonstrations and hands-on use will be provided with instruments. Participants may also bring their own handheld instruments for comparison.
