This workshop is an introduction to stable isotopes and stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS), including overview of commonly studied light stable isotope systems (C, H, N, O, S), isotope fractionation, and normalization and reporting of measurements. We will also cover the fundamental IRMS components: ionization, separation, and detection of isotopologue ions.
