From the original catalog copy: Devonian animal geography is important in a number of ways to paleontologist andd early geologist alike. The interest, of necessity, tends to center about the Early Emsian part of the early Devonian, because this particular interval is the one for which the record of Paleozoic marine invertebrate faunas is most complete. A large portion of the Southern Hemisphere, more specifically southern Africa, Antarctica, and much of South American areas have adequately distributed records of mid-Paleozoic marine faunas for Early Emsian times alone. The Early Emsian record therefore provides a focal point in evaluating the bearing of zoogeography on theories of mid-Paleozoic polar wandering or continental drift. The problems of Lower Devonian animal geography are by no means solved, but we are now in a position to make some preliminary estimates of the location of the boundaries between zoogeographic provinces and possible dispersal routes. The main burden of this paper is to define and characterize the zoogeographic provinces of the lower Devonian to Eifelian, chiefly on the basis of their brachiopods, and to delineate the provincial boundaries.
