Author: Daniel I. Axelrod
A correlation exists between explosive volcanism (for example, Krakatoa) and a decrease in temperature at Earth's surface for periods of 2 to 3 years or more, as a result of injection of volcanic dust into the stratosphere. The idea that volcanic dust must, therefore, have been a factor in the production of many past climate changes has been supported by many climatologists. In this small but well-documented paper, the author presents a good overview, excellent illustrations, and an extensive bibliography.
