Full Title: Late Quaternary Climate, Tectonism, and Sedimentation in Clear Lake, Northern California Coast Ranges
Editor: John D. Sims
Clear Lake is the largest freshwater lake located wholly within the state of California. A polymictic, eutrophic lake with a seasonal thermocline, it lies about 140 km north of San Francisco in a fault-bounded, seismically active intermontane valley. Characterized by its active tectonism, recent volcanism, and plant communities sensitive to climatic change, this area's history is closely related to the events in the nearby Geysers–Clear Lake geothermal area and to Coast Range tectonism. In this multidisciplinary study, the authors seek (1) to describe the late Quaternary paleoclimatic and paleotectonic framework of the region, and (2) to develop a reference section that may be correlated with other continental and marine deposits of the western United States. Fifteen chapters, illustrated.
