Sixteen chapters by twenty-four authors provide a systematic survey of the field of groundwater geomorphology in recognition of the importance of subsurface water on Earth-surface processes and its role in sculpting the land surface. Based on a 1984 GSA symposium, "Groundwater Geomorphology," the volume attempts to present, in its entirety, the many roles of groundwater in Earth-surface processes and the development of landforms. Specific subjects are identified and chapters include one or more significant case studies or illustrative case history reviews. The editors believe that this volume will be a milestone in the development of geomorphic theory and will do for groundwater geomorphology what Leopold, Wolman, and Miller's classic text did for fluvial geomorphology years ago.
