This volume focuses on paleoclimatic interpretation of glacial marine strata. Descriptions are included of a wide range of glacial marine sedimentary environments ranging from bays and fjords to the outer continental shelf, and climatic settings ranging from temperate to polar. The authors attempt to identify sedimentary parameters that may prove useful in distinguishing temperate from polar deposits in the rock record. Several papers deal with ancient glacial marine sequences and provide examples of both temperate and polar facies. A summary paper by the editors includes a table listing those criteria found to be useful for paleoclimatic interpretation of glacial marine deposits.
