This volume provides the most current information and thinking on each of four episodes of eastern North American magmatism that occurred during the Mesozoic: the first during the Triassic, largely confined to coastal New England; the second during a brief interval of latest Triassic-earliest Jurassic, involving both intrusion and extrusion of tholeiitic magma along the entire length of the Appalachian Mountain system; the third, also during Early Jurassic but continuing for 50 m.y., involving largely granitic magmatism in the White Mountains of New England; and the fourth during the last Jurassic and early Cretaceous, involving the intrusion of thousands of lamprophyre dikes and alkalic plutons along a linear belt through New England and Quebec. Nineteen chapters.
