Description: Join us for a captivating field trip exploring the vital role of waterworks in our environment. We’ll visit the historic 1883 Waterworks in Fort Collins and the Bellvue Hydraulic Lab to learn about the Parshall Flume and water management.
Enjoy the natural beauty of Watson Lake and its fish ladder before having lunch at New Belgium Brewing, where a presentation on the Terry Bison Ranch Project will be held. Don’t miss this opportunity to understand the essentials that sustain our communities and industries.
8 a.m.: Leave Denver
9:15 am 1883 Waterwork Works (Fort Collins first public works project)
10:30 a.m.: Bellvue Hydraulic Lab (The site where the Parshall Flume was designed to accurately measure stream flow- here we discuss irrigation, ditches, water law, and water appropriation. Could skip 1883 Waterworks and spend 2 hours here.)
11:30 a.m.: Watson Lake (Right next door to the Bellvue Hydraulic Lab. Can explore fish ladder and fish habitat.)
12:30 p.m.: New Belgium Brewing (Great spot to bring in lunch and experience an industry that relies on our healthy working river. They have a community room in which we could bring in a speaker to discuss the Terry Bison Ranch Project- the future of water supply.)
2 p.m.: Head back to Denver
