The Laramie anorthosite complex and the Sherman batholith belong to the Mesoproterozoic suite of anorthosite and ferroan granites that extend across North America from California to Labrador and into Baltica. Unlike most of the plutons in this suite that intrude Proterozoic crust, the Laramie anorthosite and Sherman batholith intrude both Archean and Proterozoic crust, enabling radiogenic isotope studies to assess clearly the relative contributions of mantle and crustal components to the magmatic evolution of the rocks. Synthesizing more than 40 years of research, this volume provides one of the most extensive documentations of the anorthosite–ferroan granite suite to date.
