Day 1 of this course will focus on chemical systems and geologic questions commonly interrogated by Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry analysis of minerals including U-Th-Pb, Lu-Hf, and trace elements, with an emphasis on geochronology and petrochronology of zircon.
Day 1 will be divided in various modules, each consisting of a first half that will be lecture-based and focus on theory, while the second half will be hands-on data interpretation using spreadsheet-based exercises and open-source software tools for data analysis and visualization. This course is geared toward geoscience faculty, professional scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
