AI assistants and interlinked databases are powerful tools for research and education in geoscience. The hands-on exercises in this short course will explore a range of such systems, including GeoGPT (large language models trained on geological material, including your own uploaded library, geologic map analysis and creation, and more), a global database of geological formations with one-click display onto paleogeographic maps (geolex.org), a taxonomy assistant and comprehensive database of fossils (approximately 40,000 genera), generation of charts for all types of Earth history information, and other emerging tools.
The session will conclude with a discussion on AI tools and the future of geoscientific research.
Coffee and snacks will be provided.
