In Fall 2025, the USGS released the Cooperative National Geologic Map, a resource that integrates and synthesizes maps from around the country into a consistent representation of the nation’s geology at and beneath Earth’s surface. This course will introduce participants to the philosophy and processes used to construct the map and walk through practical examples of extracting content from it.
Participants will work with the map through the online interface, using GIS software, and will explore how to use Python to access and manipulate the synthesized maps and primary data contained within the database.
