From the original catalog copy: The Rocky Hill Stock is a small epizonal granodiorite pluton 12 miles southeast of Visalia. It was selected as the basis for an exhaustive study of the compositional variability of a relatively simple granitic body. A sampling plan was designed to extract regional data on minor element distribution in ferromagnesian mineral phases.
In parallel with sampling and analytical work on rock and mineral samples, field and petrographic determinations of other rock properties were made. Interpretations of the emplacement and crystallization history of the Rocky Hill Stock will be applicable by petrologists to investigations of other granitic bodies.
