From the original abstract: South American Silurian correlation is presented together with the faunal and physical evidence upon which it is based at the present time. A lithofacies map, also serving as an index map tied to the correlation chart, indicates the presence of several belts of varying lithology. Source regions are not indicated because these are not known. Early Silurian glaciation in Bolivia and Argentina is outlined. In addition to summarizing previously published studies, the co-authors have presented a large mass of previously unpublished work. The endemic, shallow-water Malvinokaffric Province is discussed and contrasted with the relatively cosmopolitan northern hemisphere Silurian as represented by the Silurian of Venezuela.
